About kinburien

Founded on Respect. Built Around People.

kinburien was shaped by the belief that growing older is not a decline — it is a chapter deserving its own kind of richness, warmth, and belonging.

Our Story

How kinburien Came to Be

kinburien began with a simple observation: that the care available to elderly people in Thailand often felt institutional — efficient in a clinical sense, but lacking in personal warmth, cultural connection, and the small daily joys that make life meaningful.

The founding team — a group of healthcare professionals, social workers, and Northern Thai community members — came together in Chiang Mai with a different vision. They wanted to create a home that felt like a home, not a hospital. A place shaped by the unhurried pace of Northern Thai life, where residents are known by name, not room number.

Over years of quiet listening — to families, to elderly residents, and to experienced caregivers from across Thailand and beyond — kinburien took shape. The name itself, rooted in Thai meaning "golden city of care," reflects the ethos of dignity and warmth that guides every aspect of daily life here.

What Guides Us

Mission & Core Values

Every decision at kinburien flows from a set of values that our entire team shares — values shaped by culture, experience, and a genuine regard for the people in our care.

Dignity First

Every resident is treated as a full person with a rich history, personal preferences, and the right to make decisions about their own life. Dignity is not an aspiration — it is the starting point.

Rooted in Place

Northern Thailand is not merely our location — it is part of who we are. The food, the climate, the cultural rhythms, and the community ties of Chiang Mai are woven into everyday life here.

Community & Belonging

Loneliness is one of the greatest challenges facing older people. We build a genuine sense of community — through shared meals, group activities, and a culture where everyone knows their neighbours.

Family as Partners

We regard families as essential members of the care circle, not occasional visitors. Open communication, regular updates, and a culture of transparency ensure families feel present even when miles away.

Responsive Care

Needs evolve. Our care evolves with them. We watch, listen, and adjust — so that transitions happen smoothly and thoughtfully, without disruption to the life a resident has built here.

Holistic Wellbeing

Physical health matters — and so does mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. Our programme addresses all dimensions of a person's life, from physiotherapy to storytelling circles to quiet morning meditation.

Our People

The Team Behind the Care

Our team blends Thai cultural expertise with professional healthcare qualifications — united by a shared commitment to thoughtful, attentive care.

Senior Residential Care in Chiang Mai

kinburien sits in the Hang Dong district of Chiang Mai — a setting that combines the cultural richness of Northern Thailand with a cooler, calmer climate well-suited to elderly residents. Families from across Thailand, as well as international families with loved ones seeking care in Southeast Asia, have found in kinburien a community that feels genuine rather than institutional.

Our approach to senior residential care draws from the Thai concept of kreng jai — a mindfulness toward others' comfort and dignity — blended with modern healthcare practices. The three tiers of residency allow families to find the right level of daily support without sacrificing the warmth and independence that define life at kinburien.

We welcome enquiries from families across Thailand and internationally, particularly those exploring long-term residential care for a parent, grandparent, or older relative who would benefit from a calm, supported environment. Our admissions team speaks both Thai and English and is glad to answer questions at any stage of your thinking.
